CKV Director
My name is Stacy, and I’m so happy to serve as the Director of CKV. I grew up on the west end of the island and spent many years working with Catalina Cove and Camp, so returning to this community truly feels like coming home. I hold a degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Child Development and Early Education from CSU Long Beach, along with graduate and early childhood education studies from Hope International University and Orange Coast College.
With over 30 years of experience in early childhood education and nonprofit leadership, I’ve had the joy of leading high-quality learning programs, supporting and mentoring educators, and partnering closely with families and communities. My work blends the heart of a nurturing school director with the strategy and vision of a nonprofit executive—from staff training, curriculum design, and licensing compliance to strategic planning, fundraising, and community partnerships. No matter the role, my focus is always the same: strengthening teams, creating safe, inclusive, and joyful environments, and building programs that truly make a difference.
I’m honored to work alongside our amazing staff and families to help Avalon’s “tiny humans” learn, grow, and thrive. Always a life advocate and a little (or big) human cheerleader! I am so very glad you’re here!

Toddler Teacher
My name is Carol Ann Burcombe. I love to swim and be outdoors. I love my husband and music and this Island. I have lived on Catalina for almost 30 years making this my true home. I have worked on a kitchen staff, been a camp counselor, driven tractors and trash barges, been a life guard for a summer camp and been a boat captain here in our Avalon Harbor.
I have been working at Catalina Kid Ventures for about 17 years and it has been my favorite job so far. I love watching kids grow in their developmental stages. To see them discover something new and wonder about the world around them. I started out as a teacher’s aid and continued my education to become Center Director. Through the experience of working with great teachers and ongoing education in Early Childhood Development, I believe I am right where I’m supposed to be.
I consider it a joy and an honor to care for and guide the children of Avalon. To be a part of their continued development ... to help them grow a love for learning and knowledge of the world around them.
It is hard work but with much reward!

Preschool & Pre-K Teacher
I’m Ms. Vanessa, and I grew up on the picturesque Catalina Island. From a young age, whenever adults asked me, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” my answer was always “Teacher.” I was fortunate to have inspiring educators at Avalon School, who ignited my passion for learning and motivated me to pursue a career in teaching.
Helping raise my two youngest sisters taught me patience and gave me valuable insight into how children learn best—especially through play.
I earned an Associate degree in Early Childhood Education from Long Beach City College. Now, I am beginning my sixth year at
Catalina Kid Ventures.
My approach to teaching is rooted in nurturing curiosity, creativity, and kindness in every child. In the classroom, I emphasize hands-on activities, imaginative play, and the development of strong social-emotional skills.

Preschool Teacher Aide
My name is Lidia Gonzalez. My mother's family, the Hernandez family, has called Catalina Island home since the early 1900s. Together with my husband, we raised our five children in the charming town of Avalon.
For the past 13 years, I have been part of the Catalina Kid Ventures team. I find great satisfaction in nurturing and guiding every child who joins this remarkable program.
One of the joys of my role is meeting former CKV children, now grown, as I walk through town. Their faces light up when they see me, and I truly treasure hearing about their fond memories and positive experiences at CKV.
Toddler Teacher Aide
Hi, my name is Nicole. I am a multigenerational islander who absolutely loves this island and community.
I feel honored to be able to work with the youth of this wonderful town that helped to raise my daughter and myself. As someone who has always been in the service industry I enjoy taking care of people so I couldn't ask for a better environment with CKV to do that in
I look forward to seeing these amazing kids and am so grateful for the connections that I am making with them. It truly is a special experience ... especially when I have babysat so many of their parents in the past. Here's to round two!

Substitute
I studied at Moorpark College and have my AS in Infant and Toddler Care. I have been in childcare since 2008 working as a nanny, infant teacher, toddler teacher, support teacher, and substitute teacher in infant through pre-k. Watching the children in my care learn and grow to be confident and caring individuals has been a truly rewarding experience. On my off time, I enjoy being active in nature.
